Revered gospel composer and pastor Rev. George Owusu Mensah passed away on November 10, 2024. He was the father of celebrated gospel artist Kofi Owusu Peprah and served as the senior pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Amakom, Kumasi.

Rev. Mensah made significant contributions to Ghanaian gospel music through his timeless compositions, including the beloved hymns “Matwen Awurade Anim” and “Wo Nkutoo Na Wos3 Ayeyi.” His musical influence reached far beyond the church walls, touching countless lives through his spirit-filled melodies.

As a father, Rev. Mensah played a pivotal role in shaping his son Kofi’s musical journey, serving as both his first music teacher and spiritual mentor. Kofi, who has since become a celebrated gospel musician in his own right, often spoke of his father’s foundational influence on his career and faith. Following the news, Kofi shared a moving tribute on Instagram, expressing both his grief and gratitude for his father’s impact.

The announcement of Rev. Mensah’s passing has prompted an outpouring of support from the gospel music community, with many artists and church leaders taking to social media to share their memories and celebrate his ministry. His dedication to both music and ministry has left an enduring legacy that continues to inspire the next generation of gospel musicians and religious leaders.
